Hitchhiking Solo 4400 Miles to the Panama Canal
In 1961 as a young, adventurous law student, Denis Forster set out alone, hitchhiking from Wisconsin through the heart of America to Texas, then thousands of miles down the Pan-American Highway – crossing Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama – until he reached the Panama Canal. Along the way, he encountered campesinos, missionary priests, military officers, and expatriots, collecting experiences that ranged from terrifying to hilarious.
