Casco Bay Ferry Cruise

Portland, Maine, and the islands scattered across Casco Bay have a long and storied history. Settled as a trading village in 1632, the area has continued to grow into the thriving city that it is today. In 1853 the Grand Trunk Railway was completed, traveling through Portland to Montreal. As Portland grew, people and businesses also expanded out to the Casco Bay Islands.

Today we will be cruising on Maine’s Casco Bay ferry (a line in operation for nearly 150 years). We embark from Portland’s very busy working waterfront and circle the bay, stopping at various islands to both drop off and pick up passengers and cargo. You’ll experience beautiful scenery and a plethora of sea birds and ocean wildlife (whales or dolphins, perhaps), as well as observing a workboat going about its freight and people deliveries.

Following our tour we will return to Portland for lunch at DeMillo’s On the Water. Your choice of entrees include (1) Baked Chicken Breast stuffed with apples & cranberries; (2) Broiled Haddock topped with seasoned breadcrumbs; (3) Honey-baked fresh Scallops with Cracker Crumbs. Dessert is Maine Blueberry Cobbler. 

Accessibility: The ferry has elevators; the DeMillo’s function rooms are accessible by chair lift for those who may have issues with stairs.
